Fishing Season: August 1 to September 10
The Naknek River and its tributaries offer fantastic fishing for hard-fighting coho, or silver, salmon. When coho salmon hit fresh water from the ocean, they get aggressive. Coho salmon will readily attack flashy fly patterns that are stripped and swung, and in some of the fisheries, they demolish surface poppers and Wogs. If you like casting spinners on traditional gear, this is a great way to latch into these acrobatic Alaskan salmon.
The Naknek River and surrounding, nearby streams, receive strong annual coho runs with a generous limit of five fish per day weighing up to 15 lbs.
